Wilderness first aid is a generic term that commonly refers to any training course that focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment for an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. This course prepares participants to identify and address medical issues that can arise in the backcountry. Completion of this course includes two full days (16 hrs) of training. Participants are required to provide all meals throughout the length of this training.

Opportunities for overnight are available. See the confirmation email sent to registered participants 2 weeks out from the training for more information.

The sessions will be as follows:
Saturday, 5/2/26, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday, 5/3/26, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between wilderness first aid and standard first aid
- Understand the primary and secondary patient assessment

Adult Chaperones:
Any Girl Scouts in attendance must be accompanied by a volunteer who is registered for the training or an adult who is able to attend with their girl for the duration of the training (1 Girl Scout per adult). If the adult is not her parent/guardian, the chaperone must also have a valid background check.

Completion of this training does not guarantee automatic approval or certification. This course is designed to prepare volunteers to lead Girl Scout programming independently and responsibly. To be approved, participants must demonstrate the learning objectives above and be able to apply it to real-life situations when appropriate. Final approval is at the discretion of the trainer, based on the participant's engagement, preparedness, and ability to meet the standards required to ensure girl safety and uphold Girl Scout values.
