Our courage, confidence and character have been tested over the past month, but our connections in the Girl Scout community will keep us resilient and strong.
Sadly, our four camps have endured significant damage during Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The flooding and wind have caused fallen trees, debris and even some building damage.
The good news is that Camp Wai Lani can continue to host previously scheduled, non-overnight experiences at the Dining Hall, Lodge and Pool only, including Camp CEO on November 9. Camp Indian Echo will be reopening by November 15. We hope to have Horseshoe Meadows and the equestrian program at Camp Wildwood re-open by November 15, as well.
Girl Scouts, friends, and families can also look forward to Girl Scout Fest which has been rescheduled for October 26. You can still register and volunteer to help here!
Unfortunately, many other Council programs and adult trainings between now and January 7, 2025 will be cancelled and refunded. If this impacts you, you will receive a message from info@gswcf.org verifying your refund within two business weeks.
In addition, all troop reservations and Service Unit events between now and January 7, 2025 at Camps Wildwood, Wai Lani and Dorothy Thomas will be cancelled and refunded. Troop and Service Unit leaders who made the reservations will receive an email verifying their refund. Service Unit Encampment Directors will be contacted for rescheduling in spring or priority scheduling in 2025-2026.
At this time, we are not accepting new reservations at camps through January 7, 2025. If you have questions about your reservation, contact info@gswcf.org.
Below is a breakdown of the damage at each camp and an estimated timeline for reopening. All of this is subject to change. Thank you for your patience!

Overview of Damage

Estimated Re-Opening
|
Camp Dorothy Thomas
|
Camp Dorothy Thomas sustained significant tree damage with 150 trees down and 400-500 trees with dangerous limbs that need to be pruned. We know one cabin in the Sleepy Unit was structurally impacted by a tree. However, we won’t know if other repairs are needed until the trees are removed. We do not anticipate any other major repairs.

Camp Indian Echo
|
Camp Indian Echo sustained significant tree damage with 50+ trees down and another 50 that have dangerous limbs that need to be pruned. Three platform tents sustained damage. We do not anticipate any other major repairs.

Camp Wai Lani
|
The majority of Camp Wai Lani continues to be flooded and swampy with numerous trees down and significant debris from the storm surge. The dock, boat house, craft house, archery course, ax-throwing course, boat cleaning station, and outdoor Marine Lab have significant damage. See pictures here.
|
Fully reopened – January 7, 2025
Open only to existing daytime programs, trainings and troop meetings at Lodge and Dining Hall
Sweets & Treats Parking Lot Pick-Up – November 8 & 10

Camp Wildwood
|
Our horses are doing well and the barn area sustained minimal damage. However, the rest of Camp Wildwood sustained significant tree damage with 100+ trees down and several hundred trees with dangerous limbs that need to be pruned. We are still evaluating building damage as there are live wires and large trees down making it impossible to get to all areas.
