Backpacking is an adventure that blends hiking with backcountry camping. Broaden your horizons beyond cabins or car campgrounds to enjoy a richer, more immersive outdoor experience. Wilderness I Camp Training is the first part of a three-part training series designed to learn about the essential tools needed to take Junior level through Ambassador Girl Scouts on trips into the wilderness.

Learning Objectives:
- Identify optional and required gear needed to take you and your girls backpacking
- Understand and assess physical readiness to take adults and girls backpacking
- Describe four water treatment methods used when backpacking
- Identify best practices when practicing personal hygiene when backpacking
- Demonstrate appropriate methods to protect food against bears and other wildlife
- Identify and practice the seven principles of "Leave No Trace"
- Identify additional resources on backpacking for independent use

Completion of this training does not guarantee automatic approval or certification. This course is designed to prepare volunteers to lead Girl Scout programming independently and responsibly. To be approved, participants must demonstrate the learning objectives above and be able to apply it to real-life situations when appropriate.
