Rising Diamonds

As part of our mission, we aim to empower every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, InnovatorRisk-TakerLeader)™—regardless of her race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, or geographic location—to make the world a better place.

To serve the needs of those in west central Florida, we offer various opportunities for all girls and their families to take part in Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programming, delivered by staff members, who may not have access otherwise. By working to eliminate barriers to participation, we’re striving to ensure that Girl Scouts becomes a reality for every G.I.R.L.

Who and Where We Serve?

Launched in 2011, our Girl Scout Rising Diamonds initiative annually serves more than 5,000 girls in schools and afterschool centers in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Polk Counties, empowering them with the ability and confidence to make positive decisions about their health, education and future.

Girl Scouts in the School Day

Rising Diamonds provides a Girl Scout experience for girls in Kindergarten to twelfth grade during the school day in a 9-month program designed to promote life skills, social skills and a healthy self-image girls. This program promotes healthy behaviors, positive relationships, and financial literacy, and provides additional STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) opportunities for girls in underprivileged areas. Additionally, girls involved in this program have an opportunity to participate in Girl Scout camp and outdoor experiences.

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience

Leadership development is a major focus of Girl Scout programming. Exposure to Girl Scouts helps unlock the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, InnovatorRisk-TakerLeader)™ spirit that lies in every girl. You will help girls who want to stand up, take charge, and change the world, and live her life on her own terms.

"I learned that I need to be open minded about people and that first impressions are important because it can open up a lot of opportunities in life. " -Malaya, Girl Scout Cadette

“[My favorite part of Girl Scouting is] EVERYTHING!” -Raigan, Girl Scout

"I learned that the people that you meet can change your life but they cannot change who you are." -Da’Lashia, Girl Scout Junior

“[My favorite part of Girl Scouting is] getting to know more about other girls.” - Ihai, Girl Scout Cadette

"I think Girl Scouts gives these girls an opportunity to work through their differences without the pressure of a “crowd”, boys, or other age students.  They are able to express themselves in a safe place and mend those friendships. "- Meagan Smithyman, Program Coordinator, Sulphur Springs YMCA
