The new year is off to a heartwarming start for kids in west central Florida thanks to some amazing Girl Scouts! It's no secret that Girl Scouts have a desire to contribute to the world in purposeful and meaningful ways, learn how to identify problems in the community, and create “action plans” to solve them. The go-getters below are just two of the examples of girls and Troops in our council making the world a better place.
Gabriella's Story: Using Creativity and Advocacy to Make an Impact
Gabriella G. worked with other youth in her church community to create positive change for A Kid's Place. Here's how she described her project and it's impact:
In the beginning of the holiday season, the youth of my church decided to put on a toy drive for the children of A Kid's Place. I helped design flyers to promote the toy drive. In the span of two weeks, the toy drive became a huge hit. By the end of it all, we had SO many toys and little goodies for the kids. On December 13th, I had the opportunity of dropping off the toys to A Kid's Place. The staff members were extremely grateful for the service we bought to them this holiday season.
Troop 1716's Story: Girl Scout Daisy and Brownie Philanthropy
The Leaders of troop 1716 began their Girl Scout year by talking with their girls about helping others. The troop discussed who they'd like to help and decided to make care packages for patients at All Children's Hospital.
Leader Jessica said, "A lot of our girls were born in that hospital or have gone to the ER for being sick themselves, so they could relate how boring it is there without things to do and wanted to do something to make other kid's visits a little better. They loved being able to reach out to friends and family to help collect donations and then filling the bags at one of our meetings."
The girls were able to donate 23 thermals filled with activities for the patients and a wagon filled with board games and other items from the Hospital's Wish List.
We're so proud of the impact these Girl Scouts have made in their communities. We can't think of a better way to kick of the new decade than by completing projects that make the world a better place.
We love seeing all the incredible community projects our G.I.R.L.s complete throughout the year! If your troop or Juliette is working on a Take Action or community service project that you'd like to share, let us know!
