Over the weekend, four Girl Scout Councils from across the State of Florida (Girl Scouts of Citrus Council, Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, and Girl Scouts of West Central Florida) took 130 G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders) to Tallahassee for Legislative Days. Legislative Days is an annual event where girls in our Rising Diamonds Outreach program advocate to their State representatives for their support of Girl Scout Programing, specifically our Get Real program that is funded by the Department of Education.
The girls taking over the House Chambers
Meeting Senator Wilton Simpson, Majority Leader of the Florida Senate.
The girls got a taste of the college experience by attending seminars, eating lunch at the FAMU dining hall, and getting a campus tour from current FAMU students. In the evening, they even had time to get to know each other at the local skating rink!
The final day of the trip, they visited the Florida State Capitol, toured the House of Representatives, participated in a mock Senate Session, and explored the Florida Museum of History. Most importantly, along with our CEO Jessica Muroff and our Board President Denise Samson, they visited their legislators and advocated for the Get Real program.

What an amazing experience for our Get Real Girl Scouts, and even more so for the Legislators who got to meet them! Opportunities like these open new doors and allow girls to explore how our government works and see it in action. This trip and other educational opportunities are made possible by the generous support from our community partners, government agencies, local businesses and private donors. We believe EVERY GIRL should have the opportunity to become a Girl Scout and explore the world around them. Help us make that dream a reality!
