Girl Scouts of West Central Florida kicked off the new program year at GS Fest 2017. This year over 1,000 Girl Scouts, parents, troop leaders and volunteers took over the USF Sun Dome for a day that was all about GIRLS! Did you miss GS Fest? Girl Scout Cadette, Spring Mermaids
On September 23, 2017, the annual GS Fest was held at the University of South Florida’s (USF) campus and let me say – what an experience! There were so many interesting booths representing a variety of organizations, such as Busch Gardens, the Tampa Lightning, and Girl Scout camps.
A few raffles were held and this upcoming year’s cookie sales incentives were revealed to the masses. Score! But if you’re just thinking that this event was for little girls, you are mistaken! There was so much to do for even the eldest of scouts in USF’s Coca-ColaÔ Lounge, where scouts grades eight through twelve could participate in fun engineering and coding activities as well as learn about all the incredible programs Girl Scouts has to offer, like Camp CEO and GS Destinations.
Overall, this event was amazing and a really good way to find out everything about Girl Scout programs, camps, and more. If you weren’t able to join us for GS Fest this year, then you should definitely come on down next year to see for yourself how truly incredible this event really was!
Girl Scout Ambassador, Sunburst
GS Fest 2017 was super fun this year! There was a plethora of activities for both older and younger girls. As a Media Girl, I had the opportunity to walk around the event interviewing people, as well as taking a ton of pictures. Activities included making swaps, learning a little about code, origami and taking selfies at the nut and candy booth with masks. There were information booths about activities in the Girl Scout program events guide such as self-defense, snorkeling, and plays.
Outside was booths where you could take pictures with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s cheerleaders, learn about Busch Garden Girl Scout sleepovers and day camps, and the Lightning had a temporary rink where girls could learn and play street hockey.
There was a special section dedicated to the older Girl Scouts. It had information about the Girl Scout high awards, Camp CEO and Girl Scout travel trips such as Our Cabaña in Mexico or Our Chalet in Switzerland.
My favorite part was, of course, the Girl Scout cookie information booth. Not only did you get to see the prizes for this year’s cookie sales, you also got free Girl Scout S’mores™ or Thin Mint© cookies!
Overall, GS Fest 2017 was definitely worth attending. I really recommend participating in GS Fest next year!
