We’re just a couple of weeks away from the start of the new Girl Scout year on Oct. 1! This year, we have so many fun things planned throughout the council it might be hard to keep it all straight. But have no fear the Girl Scout Program and Event Guide is here! The guide is available right now online and will be in your mailbox next week. You can jam pack your calendar with activities and events perfect for troops, families and individual girls based on their own personal interests. To give you a little glimpse of what to expect for this year, check out the list below highlighting awesome activities you won’t want to miss!

GS Fest 2015 Explore Your World
Oct. 24, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Glazer Children’s Museum, Tampa
Kick off your Girl Scout year at GSFest2015! This event is open to everyone, and it's a great time to bring family, friends, and neighbors so they can see all the wonderful, fun, cool, science-y, thrilling, have-so-much-fun-you-can't-wait-to-do-it-again things girls can do in Girl Scouting! During the event you will get to explore the museum, participate in fun, hands-on activities and meet our program partners that will share what they have planned for Girl Scouts this year!

American Red Cross Pillowcase Project
Nov. 21, Jan. 16, 10 a.m. – noon, 12:15 – 2:15 p.m.
Leadership Center, Tampa
You’ve heard the Girl Scout motto “Be Prepared,” well now you can learn basic emergency preparedness skills and tips, and more about hazards, such as hurricanes, tornadoes or home fires. You’ll be able to take action by teaching friends and family how they too can be prepared in disasters and emergencies. During the workshop, you’ll decorate your own personal pillowcase to store your emergency items at your home for easy transport during an emergency.

Join us for our fourth Annual STEMapalooza! Spend the day at STEM activity stations where you’ll get to participate in fun, hands-on activities, learn about career options in the STEM industry and explore the Museum of Science and Industry. Patch, parking and admission to MOSI are included.

Sleep Over Retreat at Crayola Experience Orlando
April 2 – 3, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Crayola Experience, Orlando
Discover the magic of color at Crayola Experience Orlando!  Spend the night exploring 25 hands-on attractions, from naming your own Crayola crayon to creating melted wax keepsakes!  Each guest will have exclusive access to all the activities from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Price includes an evening snack, continental breakfast and patch.

Events for Older Girls

Band Against Bullying
Oct. 10 noon-4 p.m. (C,S,A Kickoff) 5 -9 p.m. (Concert)
Join us for this special Kickoff for our Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors! We were lucky to have one of our very own girls offer to team up with us for this event as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project! She's putting on a concert called Band Against Bullying, featuring local acts, as well as information to advocate against bullying with lots of tips on how to help those that are bullied. Before the concert, there will be lots of great activities for the girls and stations to learn about and celebrate all the things older Girl Scouts can do.

Hoist the Sail
Oct.17, Apr. 9, 9 a.m – noon, 1 – 4 p.m.
Camp Scoutcrest, Odessa
Experience the thrill of gliding across the water of beautiful Crescent Lake on sailboat. Learn how to harness the wind, rig sails, and steer your boat. Spend the afternoon practicing sailing knots, readying the boats, and sailing around the lake. End the day in a race across the lake.

It’s Your Story-Tell It!
Feb. 6, 2 – 4 p.m.
Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa
It’s Your Story-Tell It
through photography! In this workshop, you will shoot portraits that expresses what you feel is a positive representation of beauty for girls. Learn camera settings and discover techniques that fit you best. Use the new editing skills you’ve acquired to make basic changes to your photos and take your print home. Canon PowerShot A495 cameras will be provided to use during the workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Overnight Trail Ride Spring Break Camp
March 16 – 17, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
March 23 – 24, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Camp Wildwood
More advanced riders who want a spring break camping adventure will be taking a trail out into Camp Wildwood for an overnight stay in tents. We will cook our dinner over the fire and share stories over s’mores. Riders must have horse experience of at least Horse Kicks 2 and basic camping skills. Price includes 4 meals.

Feeding America Tampa Bay, Tampa
No one likes to be hungrym but hunger affects 1-in-6 people. Food insecurity is an everyday reality where families have to choose between bills and putting healthy food on the table. Good News! You can help! In Hunger 101, we will explore hunger and its causes through age appropriate activities that will bring new depth and understanding to this issue.

Wearable Art
Dec. 5, Feb. 6, April 9, 10 a.m. – noon
Zen Glass Studio , St. Petersburg
Let the Zen Glass Studio artists take you on a glass-blowing journey where you will create a one of a kind wearable piece of glass jewelry. You choose your color schemes and then get to melt and sculpt the glass with a torch to make a beautiful pendant to take home and wear.

MEGA STEM Saturday!
Nov. 7, 8:30 a.m. – noon
Nielsen Florida Campus, Oldsmar
Join us for a special STEM Saturday event hosted by Women in Nielsen (WIN) and let them engage young minds and inspire dreams. You’ll explore what STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) means in the real world of Nielsen, a global market research company through fun hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Did you know yoga can improve many areas of your life, like school, sports, dance music and even homework! You’ll have a blast learning the science and health benefits of Yoga while practicing poses that help with cardiovascular conditioning, relaxation, balance, digestion and concentration. Have fun with your sister Girl Scouts and earn parts of badges and Journeys.

Art with Horses
Oct. 25, March 26, May 15, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Camp Wildwood
This one-day program is perfect for girls interested in being creative with horses! The program includes several art projects and riding in the arena. You will take home your projects and the memories of riding with a special horse!

Tremendous Turtles!
June 18, 1 – 3 p.m.
The Florida Aquarium, Tampa
Learn about the threats to Florida sea turtles; how you can help them and meet a turtle up close with a private animal interaction. Then, help solve the mystery of Tango the Turtle and discover what could happen to turtles throughout their lives. Price includes admission to the Aquarium.

Girl Scout Family Game Day with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cheer on our hometown Bucs as they take on the Atlanta Falcons with your fellow Girl Scouts, family and friends! Set up your tent in our dedicated Girl Scout pregame zone and join us before the game for a Girl Scout parade and special opportunity to trade SWAPS. Girl Scout Day at LEGOLAND

Bring all of your family and friends and join us for the Annual GSWCF Girl Scout Day at LEGOLAND where you can conquer all the cool rides, like the Dragon Coaster, feel like a giant as you walk through Mini-Land USA, earn your own driver’s license at the Ford Driving School and enjoy all of the other great shows and attractions. Plus, Girl Scouts can sign up for exclusive STEM workshops geared specifically for each age level. See page 15 of the Program Guide for more information.

Paddle the Waters

Camp Scoutcrest, Odessa
Explore the waters of Camp Scoutcrest by canoe! You’ll learn canoeing skills, different strokes, and strengthen the ones you already have! Do you know how to get across the lake quickly? How to turn your boat around without hitting anything? Do you know your J stroke from your pitch stroke? Learn how to become a canoe master while having a fun time out on the water at Camp Scoutcrest!

Take Aim

Camp Dorothy Thomas, Riverview
Learn about the equipment, skill, procedures and safety related to the sport of archery. You’ll find the archer’s stance and feel the pride of hitting the target, try for a bull’s-eye, and maybe even play target games!  Girls will gain instruction on the ever-growing sport of archery, learn how to stand to shoot, the parts of the bow and arrow, what makes a good shot, and finally get to practice hitting the target!
