Our Challenge Courses provide exciting team-building opportunities for groups and individuals to develop confidence, a collaborative spirit, and problem-solving skills. While sometimes mistaken for ropes courses, our challenge courses are not interconneted with rope elements, and not all of our challenge course elements incorporate ropes.
Challenge Courses are made up of real and imaginary obstacles that are designed to challenge groups to use their skills and teamwork to accomplish a task. Sometimes these challenges involve traversing a series of cables and wooden elements near the ground (low courses) or high in the air (high courses). Additionally, there can be ground based obstacles that require groups to work together (this type is often called group initiatives).
Girl Scouts of West Central Florida has Challenge Courses at three of our four camp properties: Camp Indian Echo, Camp Wai Lani, and Camp Dorothy Thomas. Camp Indian Echo has low wooden and cable courses, plus our giant swing.
Camp Wai Lani offers a climbing tower with a cargo net and dual auto-decending zip lines. Camp Dorothy Thomas' course incorporates both low wooden elements, including a team wall, and a tower that includes two rock walls, a rappelling wall, and one of the longest zip lines in west central Florida.
Participation on our courses is based on progression. All our programs are run
by trained Girl Scouts of West Central Florida staff. To schedule a
program at any of our challenge courses, please fill out our required request form. You'll also need a signed
waiver for everyone who will be participating.
