2008 National Young Women of Distinction Call for Applications

It is that time of year again – time to recognize exceptional young women who have earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award. This year, 10 Young Women of Distinction will be honored at a special awards ceremony in Indianapolis, Oct. 30 – Nov. 2, 2008.

Applications are now being accepted from any Girl Scout who received her Girl Scout Gold Award between Oct. 1, 2006 and April 30, 2008. Girls who wish to apply or nominate someone for this special honor are encouraged to download an application.

Please note that the application must be completed and submitted to GSWCF no later than May 15, 2008. There is no limit on the number of applications GSWCF can submit to GSUSA.

Gold Award projects will be evaluated on three key areas: how the project reflects the passion the Girl Scout has for the cause and how she has used her leadership skills to take action; how the project affects the world around her; and how the project addresses the three Girl Scout keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action. The winners will be announced by GSUSA on Aug. 29, 2008.

Let’s do our part in recognizing the fine young women in Girl Scouting –nominate a Gold Award recipient today! If you have any questions or concerns about the National Young Women of Distinction event, please contact Rhondalisha Collins at (813) 262-1780 or rcollins@gswcf.org.
