We strongly believe that all girls should have equal access to Girl Scouting. Our Membership Extension team works to develop new strategies to recruit and retain girls and adults who reflect the diverse population of Girl Scouts of West Central Florida’s jurisdiction.
Membership Extension initiatives offer girls the chance to participate in Girl Scout activities not previously available because of a lack of adult volunteers. In addition to year-round programming, girls participate in our annual Product Sale Programs and council-wide programs and events including a year-end Encampment of Dreams. Thanks to Membership Extension, girls in unserved or underserved segments of the population now have an opportunity to benefit from Girl Scouting.
We offer Girl Scout programs in children’s hospitals, day care centers, domestic violence shelters, exceptional centers, homeless shelters, juvenile justice sites (detention centers, non-residential program centers and residential program centers), migrant communities, recreation centers and schools. Our partner agencies include Alpha House of Tampa, Boys and Girls Clubs, Head Start, Jack and Jill of America, Joshua House, Metropolitan Ministries, Moffitt Cancer Center, PACE Centers for Girls (Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties), “R” Clubs of Pinellas County, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Tampa Housing Authority, The Spring of Tampa Bay, 21st Century Safe-T-Net and the YMCA.
Grants from a number of agencies help support our Membership Extension efforts. These include the Florida Mentoring Initiative, Jack and Jill of America, Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County, the MetLife Foundation College Pathways Program, Pasco County Government and 21st Century Safe-T-Net (state and federal). Funding also comes from the general operating budget of Girl Scouts of West Central Florida. Your support of the council through donations and the purchase of Girl Scout Cookies will help ensure that our Membership Extension efforts continue.
