GSWCF Taking Appropriate Steps Regarding Swine Flu

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida is monitoring the situation regarding Swine Flu closely and is taking appropriate steps based on guidelines established by the local health department and the CDC. The safety of our girls is always our top priority, so we will take the necessary steps to ensure their continued safety.

We are encouraging all of our parents to talk with their girls about simple steps they can take to stay healthy during this flu season, including:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

We are encouraging our troop leaders to keep us abreast if they notice a number of children missing from local activities due to the flu and to take appropriate actions if necessary.

In addition, we encourage all of our members to stay tuned to the situation since it is very fluid and to visit the CDC’s website for the latest information.
