Camp CEO – Where the leaders of today inspire the leaders of tomorrow

This quote fully represents the spirit and purpose of an incredible weekend.

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida held our first Camp CEO program January 13-15. This leadership retreat has been in the making for a couple of years. As always, we sought the feedback of girls in planning this spectacular program. They guided us in our efforts to plan a program that met their needs. They even designed the Camp CEO patch!

This inaugural program was a tremendous success. The weekend will certainly be one of the highlights of my year, even though it happed just as the year began!

So, what was so special about our new program? We brought together our high school Girl Scouts and local female executives. We had CEOs, COOs, entrepreneurs, engineers, real estate executives, lawyers, judges, marketing executives, nonprofit executives and scientists with us. They were our mentors for the weekend. It was magical and heartwarming to see the relationships that developed throughout the day between our girls and mentors. I was proud of how confident our girls were and I was honored the mentors gave all of themselves to our girls.

The format of the leadership program included interactive workshops on leadership, goal setting, etiquette, personal branding, earning the Gold Award, meaningful journaling, and team building. The beginning of the program focused heavily on the mentors providing guidance and lessons to our girls, but when it came to celebrating our new friendships around the camp fire that evening, the mentor role transitioned to the girls as they taught fire safety and sang Girl Scout songs.

This program was our mission in action. I’m grateful for the mentors who gave their precious weekend time to offer important life and career lessons to our girls. I’m grateful for our girls for stepping outside their comfort zone and fully participating in the weekend events. Both Girl Scout and mentor walked away from the weekend a changed woman. One knowing the future was very bright for herself, the other knowing the future was bright because of our Girl Scouts.

I’d like to thank our Camp CEO sponsors Pilot Bank, Mackness & Poore Consulting, and Dean Mead Law Firm. It was their support that made this wonderful weekend possible.

Enjoy the photos of the program below and be sure to join us for the next Camp CEO!
