IST Labs at Florida Poly

FlaPolyISTBuilding

At this year's STEMapalooza, you'll get to discover three of Florida Poly's IST labs:

1. Supercomputer Lab- In this high-performance lab, students perform complex calculations, run simulations and create detailed data maps using a high-speed, high-capacity IBM processor that is similar to the Watson supercomputer. Florida Poly’s supercomputer will not beat anyone at Jeopardy anytime soon because it is designed to support student projects like creating a new cryptocurrency or simulating the spread of the Zika virus. Come stop by the Supercomputer Lab to learn more.

2. Cyber Gaming and Digital Media Lab- Wearable computers, media production, game development and simulated environments are just some of the innovations to come out of this lab. The CGM Lab is a F.I.T.S. environment: a flexible interactive technology space. It also incorporates technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. Come stop by the CGM Lab to learn more about this great technology and maybe you will find yourself on the green screen.

3. Rapid Application Development (RAD) Makerspace Lab- This hybrid manufacturing systems environment holds 55 3D printers and digital object scanners, making it one of the largest MakerBot Innovation Centers in the world. This lab has recently undergone some changes to make way for a student project revolving around an autonomous golf cart, AKA a self-driving golf cart. Come stop by the RAD Makerspace Lab to learn more about this technology and how our students are utilizing this space.
