What is Florida Polytechnic?
Florida Polytechnic University is an institution to progress science, engineering, and technology. It's the newest addition to Universities in the state of Florida and focuses heavily on STEM education. Florida Poly houses two colleges: the College of Innovation and Technology and the College of Engineering. These colleges help prepare students for careers in the ever-growing STEM field. The Innovation, Science, and Technology (IST) Building where STEMapalooza will be held is home to a supercomputer, 3-D printing lab, cyber gaming and media lab, cyber security lab, robotics lab, big data lab, and digital library. Wow!
You may have seen the beautiful IST building from I-4 (it looks like it's made of giant white feathers)! It was designed by architect Dr. Santiago Calatrava, and includes 94 robotic louvers on the roof that move to accommodate changing sunlight patterns. The louvers allow sunlight in to provide natural lighting in all it's classrooms, labratories, and even the Starbucks! Awesome!
