COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

PURPOSE:

Responsible for developing, retaining, and increasing girl and adult membership in assigned geographic areas. Identify, recruit, train and provide ongoing support to administrative volunteers enabling them to extend Girl Scouting in their jurisdiction. Develop and implement plans for membership extension through the work of administrative volunteers and represent and extend Girl Scouting in the community through presentations, collaborative efforts and networking.

REPORTS TO:

Director of Membership Marketing – Main Office or Director of Field Services – Lakeland and Ocala

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Actively supports and promotes the Council’s and GSUSA’s affirmative action plans and their commitment to diversity throughout the organization.
  • Actively supports and promotes all efforts to increase cooperation, communication and collaboration between and among staff members, volunteers and girls.
  • Understands and internalizes the importance of seeking resolution to problems and concerns by bringing them to the direct attention of her/his supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates and promotes a climate of courtesy and professionalism to co-workers, the volunteers served by this Council and others with whom her/his job puts her/him in contact.
  • Ensures that materials prepared and produced for the Council’s internal and external publics reflect the highest standards of excellence.
  • Consistently seeks to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all Council operations by demonstrating positive and creative approaches to the delivery of service.
  • Demonstrates sound time management skills by effectively and efficiently organizing, prioritizing and completing multiple assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethical Conduct as delineated in the Employee Personnel Manual.
  • Promotes the concept that funding of a Girl Scout council is an integral part of the Girl Scout program and relates to others the case for support.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Markets the Girl Scout mission to parents, community groups, institutions and businesses.
  • Recruits and appoints volunteer directors for assigned service units.
  • With Service Unit Manager, coordinates the recruitment, appointment and management of all members of the Service Team.
  • Assists the Service Team in the development of a demographic profile of the service unit in order to establish a plan of work yearly to establish recruitment and retention goals for girls and adults.
  • Develops and implements a plan of action to make Girl Scouting accessible to all girls and to attain membership goals.
  • Works in tandem with the Manager of Short term Membership Outreach to assure volunteers working with girls in short term pathways have adequate support and knowledge of the designed curricula for their programs.
  • Organizes support volunteers for the Council’s Annual Giving Campaign and assists the Service Unit Service Teams in the fund development goals.
  • Participates in adult development/training of Service Team personnel.
  • Interprets council policies, procedures and actions taken at meetings in assigned geographic areas.
  • Participates in special assignments as delegated by the Supervisor.
  • Provides ongoing support and education of Girl Scout leaders to assure quality Girl Scout program for all age levels.
  • Ensures participation at the service unit level in the spring Membership Renewal Campaign in assigned areas in cooperation with the Supervisor.
  • Ensures participation at the service unit level in the spring and fall Adult Recruitment Campaign in assigned areas in cooperation with the Supervisor.
  • Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with local community organizations to ensure that the racial, ethnic and socio-economic diversity of the community is reflected in the girl and adult membership.
  • Provides on-going support and resources to include, but not be limited to, supervision, direction, recognition and education for Service Team and Girl Scout leaders to assure quality Girl Scout program for all age levels; identify and schedule
    council support services, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent training and experience
  • Ability to speak Spanish desirable
  • Belief in the mission of Girl Scouting
  • Community organization and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work with persons of all racial, ethnic, social and economic backgrounds
  • Willingness to work in team environment
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Human relations skills
  • Automobile and telephone necessary, along with documentation of required automobile insurance
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge and acceptance of beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout movement; willing to register as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA

Salary Range—Grade 8

$36,499 – $49,272 – $62,046
